Do you know Ghosting, Benching and Nudes?

New year, new happiness in love. In January, above-average singles sign up on dating platforms. But all of a sudden, online dating isn’t answering questions or posting obscene photos: A Parship survey of 1,000 respondents aged 18 to 69 shows Swiss people do not show due respect when dating online.

46 percent have already had bad experiences with online dating. Phenomena such as ghosting or queuing are also common, as are zombies or unwanted nude photos. About 30 percent said they had already seen ghosts. The fifth admitted that he was guilty and saw someone as a ghost.

Women and youth are more affected

Women are affected by bad behavior more often than men. And young people in particular are more likely to face disrespectful behavior. This is easy to explain. Young people tend to use online dating more diligently than older people because they have grown up with technology.

Dania Schiftan, clinical sexologist and Parship psychologist, says: “Disrespectful behavior on dating can hurt.” Also, an action doesn’t necessarily have to happen, even ignoring it can hurt and therefore be harmful.

So, do you have any less bad experiences in real life than online? 30 percent of respondents say “No”. This contrasts with the 22 percent who believe they have had worse experiences with online dating than they did in real life. The sexologist sees no difference: you can always get hurt.

Another 30 percent are less willing to actively seek a mate because of a bad experience. “Behind the profile is a person with feelings,” says Schiftan. A quarter of those surveyed take the rebukes personally and quickly forget about the issue. However, 13 percent of women and 17 percent of men admit that they also exclude their peers because of their negative experiences.

campaign launched

The singles platform wants to take action against the lack of manners and motivate singles to be more determined when dating.

Schiftan advises people who have had a bad experience to accept themselves. “The next step can be to determine whether to notify the person that they hurt you.”
