Ever since he left The Walking Dead in 2018 and announced his own trilogy of films, fans of the hit series have been eagerly awaiting the return of former franchise figurehead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). After all, there was a little teaser at the end of the final “Walking Dead” season recently, where Rick and his great love Michonne (Danai Gurira) at least dropped by for an independent epilogue.
However, the real comeback of the two, which has now been transformed from a film trilogy into a six-part miniseries, is still a long way off – and even longer than expected. Originally announced for late 2023, US broadcaster AMC has now announced: “The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonnewill not come until 2024, almost six (!) years after the departure of Rick’s “Walking Dead”. When exactly the spin-off will start and where we will see it in Germany is not yet certain.
Later, the spin-offs about Daryl, Maggie and Negan will also come
The postponement of the Rick and Michonne series comes as no great surprise, given that the 2023 Walking Dead calendar was (and still is) packed. The new date for the offshoot is just part of a major adjustment to the zombie universe timetable, which will be diligently expanded even after the main series ends.
It’s straightening out a bit now, so that the two other new fan-favorite spin-offs are also waiting for us later than originally planned. So it turns out “The Walking Dead: Dead City”, where Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) end up in zombie-infested New York years after the finale of “Walking Dead”, instead of April now in June 2023 “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” which transports the titular hero (Daryl Dixon) to faraway France, is expected to move to the end of the year.
Fear The Walking Dead ends after season 8
But that’s not the end of the news when it comes to The Walking Dead, which has potential (if not wholly unexpected) disappointments for hardcore fans. As American trade journals also report, citing AMC, will be the upcoming eighth season of the first spin-off”Fear the walking dead“Also the lastmeaning the offshoot will end up having three seasons less than its parent series.
For the finale, “Fear” fans can look forward to seeing former main character Madison (Kim Dickens) rejoin the main cast after making a guest appearance in Season 7, hopefully to bid the offshoot a proper farewell. A first fragment from the new episodes gives a preview of their next performance:
The last season of “FTWD” will contain not the usual 16, but only 12 episodes, which will be released in two parts with an interval of several months. Season 8A will flicker across the screens in the US from May 14, 2023 (in Germany this will most likely be the case again a day later on Amazon Prime Video), there is no fixed start date for season 8B yet.
