According to the author of these lines, the giant Loth wolves are among the most fascinating creatures in the “Star Wars” universe. They are probably highly intelligent and closely associated with the Force – and they were considered extinct, until now they were almost only seen in cave paintings, such as at the entrance of an ancient Jedi temple. But in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels”, Ezra Bridger and Co. several wolves that are still alive. They even help Ezra get into the “world between worlds,” a special place of power completely separate from space and time. In the animated series, we also see how strong they are in battle.
They became fan favorites of the saga. From 2017 When the most popular creatures from “Star Wars Rebels” were polled, they came in first place by a wide margin and nearly half of all votes. Now they’re ready to make their live-action debut as well.
» “Star Wars Rebels” and more on Disney+*
Like the usually very knowledgeable insiders of report, they could confirm that in the upcoming Disney Plus series”Ahsoka“, which as in “The Mandalorian” out again Rosario Dawson embodied title heroine will ride such a Loth wolf. Horses were also used as stand-ins for the dire wolves during production. There are also action scenes with Ahsoka and her mount.
But it will probably still have to be helped with a computer. According to the great canon encyclopedia Star Wars: The Ultimate Book the Loth wolves average 2.60 meters in height and almost 6 meters in length. They clearly tower over horses, as the above photo also illustrates.
The direwolves from “Game Of Thrones” also look like tiny creatures by comparison and can certainly pack right away in a fictional head-to-head duel. They’re probably about half the size of their Star Wars counterparts (and sorry, as much as we love Ghost, they’re half as smart).
Ahsoka on a wolf: greetings from the anime masterpiece “Princess Mononoke”.
At least one Loth wolf appearing in “Ahsoka” makes perfect sense. The creatures were created by Dave Filoni, who is now also the mastermind behind the Ahsoka series. We also recently saw the animals associated with the disappearance of Ezra Bridger. The series is about Ahsoka who is looking for exactly this. But there is another connection with the anime masterpiece Princess Mononoke:
When George Lucas started The Clone Wars series, anime had a huge influence. Filoni, who implemented the series for him, made ample use of it. In 2016 at Star Wars Celebration Europe, he revealed that Ahsoka Tano’s template came from the anime “Princess Mononoke”. The protagonist San from Hayao Miyazaki’s classic inspired him to create Tano. Both characters have some similarities – and anyone who’s seen “Princess Mononoke” knows what San’s mount is: a giant wolf!
It remains to be seen with excitement how the implementation in “Ahsoka” has been successful. We’ll have to be patient a little longer. “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is currently still running on Disney+, after which “The Mandalorian” will continue before “Ahsoka” will probably not follow until the summer of 2023.
