With the millions and millions of travelers each year, strange, if not sensational, finds can be made that often feature on the TSA’s Insta profile.

Besides, the TSA Insta profile is extremely entertaining. According to the government agency, it offers “Travel Tips & Dad Joke Hits”.

At the beginning of January, the TSA always publishes its most special finds from the previous year. Here is a selection of the “Best of 2022”:

This hand grenade was found in a carry-on bag at Milwaukee Mitchell Airport. After the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb disposal team was called in, the grenade was found to be inactive.

Dulles International Airport, Virginia: Three drovers crammed into a passenger’s bass guitar case. If this paraphernalia had been packed in a checked bag, it would have been perfectly legal.

December Discovered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: a gun hidden in a stripped PlayStation console.

Ah, yes: loads of firearms are being discovered. Since the corona wave, there has even been a significant increase. In 2022, 6,300 firearms were seized from airport security – a record.

November 2022, Kennedy Airport, New York: TSA officials noticed that the wheels of a women’s wheelchair traveling from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic were having trouble turning. Upon further investigation, the reason became clear.

Something new: drugs were found hidden in scrunchies at the airport in Boise, Idaho. It is impossible to determine whether these were style-conforming retro drugs from the 1990s.

Um no. No airlines allow carrying live snakes in hand luggage.

Richmond International Airport: A double blade hidden in a laptop sleeve. Again: why? It would have been safe in a checked bag.

December 22, 2022, JFK Airport, New York: Here it was a checked bag that triggered an alarm. Upon further investigation, TSA agents discovered a disassembled gun concealed enough to fit like two jars of peanut butter.

TSA officials seized about 12,000 fentanyl pills from a suspect who hid them in candy boxes while transferring at Los Angeles International Airport.

Happy Thanksgiving, Florida style! On November 7, 2022, TSA agents at Fort Lauderdale International Airport discovered a gun hidden in a raw whole chicken. Uh, no, you can’t bring raw meats on board.
