Almost a year and a half after the third season, the story about stalker Joe Goldberg finally continues. The first part of the fourth season “You – You will love me” will be released on Netflix on February 9. The second part of the season will appear on the streaming service at the end of March. A first trailer appeared on Monday, which makes it clear that everything will be different in this fourth season.
Warning, spoilers for the past three seasons of “You – You will love me” follow.
After the dramatic end of the third season, in which Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, literally left the scorched earth in his California home, he starts a new life in London. There he takes the new name Jonathan Moore and poses as a university professor. In his new identity, he quickly found his way into the elite circles of the British capital – but that didn’t mean he led a leisurely life.
The trailer shows that Joe Goldberg has to pull himself together in various situations in order not to give in to his stalker instinct and chase an attractive woman. Nevertheless, he watches his neighbor through his window, suggesting that Joe has found a new obsession after all and is falling into old criminal patterns.
Rather than being another stalking drama, the fourth season promises to be more of a murder mystery. The ‘Eat the Rich’ killer goes around London killing wealthy upper class people – sometimes including Joe Goldberg’s new friends and acquaintances. Joe tries to solve the crimes using his stalking skills, drawing attention to himself.
The trailer shows how the tide turns for Joe: he receives mysterious messages that make it clear that he is now being watched by someone himself. He is also haunted by visions of his ex-lover Marianne.
“You” fans are already enthusiastic about the trailer. Most people seem to like that the series will follow a new pattern in its fourth season. For example, a comment under the YouTube video reads: “I have to say it looks really good. It’s like the series has reinvented itself. It’s basically the same, but somehow totally different.” Another YouTube user writes, “I’m glad they changed the concept of the season and it’s now a crime.”
Viewers of the series are already coming up with the first theories about who Joe’s stalker could be. A popular contestant is Ellie, Joe’s neighbor from season two. This was played by Jenna Ortega, who now stars as Wednesday in the Netflix series of the same name. But Joe’s wife Love and even Beck from season one are traded as possible stalkers. Who it actually is probably won’t surface until March.
