Gothaer insurance company drew attention to this in Cologne on Wednesday, citing damage statistics. Therefore, the amount of damage is not higher than on other days. Friday of the current week is supposedly an unlucky day.
Claims are generally below average
Mechthild Oppermann, Gothaer claims expert, stressed that the amount of damage in the private client area on the Fridays in question was “always” above average and “usually below average”. On average, his company received about 530 special damage reports per day. There were only 447 people on May 13, which was also a Friday last year. Comparisons with annual statistics confirm this.
Gothaer’s data overlaps with data from other insurance companies. The Zurich company had already announced on Monday that the number of claims in the long-term average on Friday, the 13th, was similar to other Fridays.
Other countries other etiquette
Gothaer also pointed out that the belief in particularly unlucky Fridays, along with the number 13, is by no means typical in an international comparison. In western Switzerland, even such a day is considered a lucky day.
In Spain and Greece, Tuesday the 13th is considered a bad day for marriage and new beginnings. The group said that in Italy, the number was associated with misfortune.
