“Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” takes up a few of its 192 minutes at the beginning to briefly outline what has happened on Pandora over the years. After all, 13 full years have passed since the events of “Avatar: Pandora’s Adventures”. He bridges to part 1 with a series of scenes strongly reminiscent of Jake Sully’s (Sam Worthington) arrival on Pandora, highlighting key new story elements. How did Jake fare with his Na’vi love interest Neytiri (Zoe Saldana)? Why does a human child belong to their blue family? And what about the teenage Kiri played by Sigourney Weaver? James Cameron answers all of these questions in quick succession before getting started.
It is no coincidence that something is left open in “The Way Of Water”. Of course, telling all the years in detail would be decidedly beyond the scope of the epic, which is already over three hours long (or would have necessitated further interim sequels). Plus, it also doesn’t hurt to let the audience know with a minimum of uncertainty to maintain excitement and curiosity – after all, people are supposed to head to theaters for “Avatar 3” (theatrical release: December 18, 2024).current .

The three-part comic book, which takes place between the two cinema films, appeared a few weeks ago with “Vol. 1”, which already answered a question that burned under the fingernails of many after going to the cinema: Who is Spider’s mother? Now follow “Vol. 2″ and “Vol. 3” – and with it more insight into the time that is retold at high speed in the cinema.
This is what Avatar: The High Ground is all about
In Avatar: The High Ground, ideas from James Cameron taken over, for which there was no place in “Avatar” and its sequels. In terms of content, however, the story is limited to the period between the two previous films, so that ‘The High Ground’ functions both as a sequel to the first film and as a prequel to the second film.
After we read in “Vol. 1″ have already met Jake and Neytiri’s children – Lo’ak, Neyetam and Tuk, played in the film by Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters and Trinity Bliss, and of course Kiri and Spider – the Na’vi’s renewed confrontation with the people of “Vol. 2” and “Vol. 3” increasingly tangible.
Jake, who became Toruk Makto at the end of Pandora and has long been part of the Na’vi community, not least because of his love for the native Neytiri, knows his new family must fight against Earth’s invaders . as strong as the weakest link. So he begins to prepare the Na’vi – especially his descendants – for the inevitable battle.
In “Avatar: The Way Of Water” we see all too clearly where this training leads. For ex-Marine Sully, nothing beats “a good old safety briefing,” as he points out in the first film. He also lets his protégés feel that military spirit, as evidenced by the first act of “Avatar 2”. While Neytiri adores her family as such, Sully’s raising of his children is more reminiscent of an army regiment – complete with “Enter!” and “Resign!”.
At the end of “The Way Of Water”, the family man slowly begins to understand what family means not only to the Na’vi, but also to himself. He’s undergoing development that will set new standards for the already wacky and highly anticipated Avatar 3. And who knows, maybe we’ll get more comics or graphic novels to bridge upcoming movies. If the Pandora franchise continues to be so successful, there will eventually be “Avatar 4” (December 16, 2026) and “Avatar 5” (December 20, 2028), which could then provide space for further stories beyond the big screen.
