Hugh Jackman doesn’t want Ryan Reynolds to win an Oscar

“I beg you from the bottom of my heart: don’t give him such appreciation!” With these pleading words, actor Hugh Jackman addresses his social media audience in an Instagram video — and possibly the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts the annual Academy Awards.

The Australian begins his video with this line: “It’s 2023 and I really want to spread positive news.” However, recent events would make that impossible, according to Jackman.

He then addresses the movie “Spirited”, an American musical comedy film that came out in mid-November. It stars Will Ferrell – and Ryan Reynolds, known as one of Jackman’s best acting colleagues. That should also show how the Australian’s Instagram video should be understood.

“Don’t get me wrong, I loved ‘Spirited’, my whole family loved the movie.” However, he just found out that the song “Good Afternoon”, sung by Ryan Reynolds, was shortlisted for the Oscar nominations – as “Best Song”.

“A Ryan Reynolds nomination for Best Song would make my life unbearable,” says Jackman. He had to spend the entire year filming “Deadpool 3” with Reynolds, and, “Believe me, if he was nominated for this Oscar, it would be… a problem.”

For the Marvel movie “Deadpool 3”, Jackman is making a comeback with the Wolverine character – although he actually turned his back on it after the movie “Logan – The Wolverine”. The superhero character of the group X-Men had accompanied him since the early 2000s.

With his latest Instagram post, Jackman is cultivating a feud he and Reynolds have been happily organizing for years. However: the possible Oscar nomination could actually mean a small sting for Jackman – after all, it’s the Australian known for his singing talent and not Reynolds.

Hugh Jackman recently appeared on Broadway in New York with a new edition of the musical classic “The Music Man”. And he also impressed in the cinema with his singing talent, including in the musical “Les Misérables” and “Greatest Showman”.

However, in “Deadpool 3”, Jackman can become an action hero again. The film will be shot this year and will be released in theaters at the end of 2024. The audience can therefore look forward to more amusing contributions from the two colleagues.
