[Update 4. Januar 2022]: The American Disney + is now officially February 1, 2022 as the start date of “Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever”. We assume that this date also applies to Germany.
A pattern is slowly emerging: after “Shang-Chi”, “Eternals”, “Doctor Strange 2” and “Thor 4” celebrated their premiere on Disney+ only about two months after its theatrical release, this will now also be the case with the latest Marvel movie apparently being like this again: “Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever“ is likely to release on Disney+ on January 20, 2023. Several American sites report this, citing their own sources and the Disney + team.
We have already contacted the responsible press agency and asked whether the date also applies to Germany. There is no official information on this yet – we will keep you updated. However, we strongly assume that January 20, 2023 will also apply to Germany. Finally, “Shang-Chi And The Ten Rings”, “Eternals”, “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” and “Thor: Love And Thunder” also started in parallel in the US and Germany as a subscription to Disney +.

The fact that the film is already being shown there also argues for an early start of “Black Panther 2” on the Disney streaming service. At the German Disney + “Wakanda Forever” is currently still available as “Coming soon on Disney +”, so without a specific date.
At least one important thing emerges from the entry: like a number of other MCU films “Black Panther 2” will be available in the so-called “Imax Enhanced” version on Disney+. In plain language: In addition to the classic widescreen format, you can also watch “Wakanda Forever” in a version that was shown in IMAX theaters and offers a much larger screen area in selected (action) scenes.
The relatively early start of streaming “Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever” is also interesting for another reason: It is finally becoming clear that after a short time, Marvel and Disney continue to successfully release films that are currently playing in theaters on Disney+.
With $820 million worldwide so far, “Wakanda Forever” doesn’t come close to the box office of the first installment ($1.38 billion worldwide), but is still running quite strong in theaters right now. By the way, “Black Panther 2” is pretty much right in between the other MCU movies of 2022: “Thor 4” with 760 million and “Doctor Strange 2” with 955 million.
After “Black Widow,” “Eternals,” and “Shang-Chi,” which took a turn for the worse due to the pandemic, the MCU is now (almost) back in its old theatrical form — but Disney is still sticking to the early streaming starts that came during Corona. Another top movie just released in theaters will be released on Disney+ in a few days:
