These are Gary Barlow’s wines

British singer Gary Barlow (51) played a major role in shaping the music of the 1990s with his band Take That. But in recent years Barlow has gotten a little quieter until suddenly offering its own line of wines in October 2021.

It’s no coincidence that the wines come from Spain, according to Barlow: The Englishman says it was the country he first traveled to as a child. Spain also has a special status for its time with Take That, because the band gave their first concert abroad in that country.

Gary Barlow relies on organic wines

After other famous personalities like Jon Bon Jovi (60) or Kylie Minogue (54) got into the wine business, Barlow now dared to take that step. Their wines are made exclusively from organically grown grapes and come from Castilla, Spain’s viticulture region.

Barlow’s white wine consists of half each of the Viura and Verdejo grape varieties and is matured in steel tanks. Aromas of lemon, green apple and fresh fennel develop in the glass, and the wine is carried with a pleasant acidity. The bottles have screw caps instead of cork.

Barlow chose a blend of Syrah and Tempranillo grape varieties from 30 to 40-year-old vines for his red wine. This wine is also not aged in wooden barrels and focuses on its fruity profile. There is also a rose recently made from Tempranillo that shows a perceptible remnant of sweetness.

Success speaks for itself

Barlow’s wines were sold in British supermarkets for ten francs a bottle and were in great demand from the very beginning. Nearly a year after launch, it’s clear that the singer had a good instinct for her idea: more than 500,000 bottles were sold and continued uninterrupted demand.

In the near future, Barlow’s wine range will be further expanded. For example, consider red wine or sparkling wine aged in oak barrels. However, Barlow’s wines are currently only available in Great Britain and Ireland, so Swiss fans of the singer will have to be patient.
