Anyone familiar with the “The Witcher” issue should have noticed in Episode 1 of “The Witcher: Blood Origin” when the name “Eredin” was first mentioned. However, at the latest in the prequel series finale, it was very clearly stated why this Eredin (Jacob Collins-Levy), captain of the Elven Guard of Xin’trea, is so important to the “The Witcher” universe.
Because in “Blood Origin” we see the origin story of those antagonists that we saw briefly in “The Witcher” season 2 and who then become very important in season 3: the Wilde Jagd of Wild Hunt, also known as the Ghosts of Morhögg! This is the name of a group of ancient spirits trapped in another dimension, led by Eredin Bréacc Glas.
The Wild Hunt: trapped in another dimension
Seven heads make up the Wild Hunt in the series, and there are seven soldiers in The Witcher: Blood Origin, who in episode 4 together with the magician Balor (Lenny Henry) and his trainees go through the gate to another world. Balor then makes the soldiers disappear, so to speak – but they are not dead, but banished to another place, as his words to Eredin make clear: “Wherever this takes you, may you burn forever.”
“For all eternity” is a good keyword, because Eredin and his colleagues have been rotting away for centuries, after all, the group still exists at the time of “The Witcher”. But before we get into who exactly the Wild Hunt are and what they’re up to in Season 3 of The Witcher – why is the short scene with the bone mask such a clear indication of Eredin’s fate?
Demons decorated with bones
Eredin digs up half of a monstrous creature’s skull and mounts it – and the other soldiers will do the same. For the members of the Wild Hunt all wear such masks and skeletal armor, as seen in the short scenes of season 2 of The Witcher, and even more so in the released concept art for the fantasy series.
The Wild Hunt’s horses are also decorated with bones – where the group got the ghostly four-legged friends from remains open in “Blood Origin” for now, though. In it, the soldiers entered the other dimension on foot. But you seem to be able to get a lot out of the sand.
What does the Wild Hunt need Ciri for?
Since the conjunction of the spheres, these lost souls have been hunting through the alien dimension and looking for a way to get back into their world. And for that they need Ciri (Freya Alan). Due to a genetic variation in her elven lineage called the Elder Blood, she has the power to open portals between the realms – just like she did in the season 2 finale. So for the wild hunt, it would be the ticket home …

In season 3 of The Witchercoming to Netflix in summer 2023 will return Henry Cavill returns to our screens one last time as Geralt of Rivia. From Season 4, Liam Hemsworth takes over the role. So far, it looks like we’re keeping the other main cast, which includes Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as Jaskier.
No second season of “The Witcher: Blood Origin” planned
“Blood Origin”, on the other hand, is considered a four-part miniseries completed, a second season of “The Witcher: Blood Origin”. Netflix so you shouldn’t expect it. But the prequel and the main series, set 1200 years later, are closely linked not only by the wild hunt, the phenomenon of the conjunction of the spheres and the creation of the first wizard.
