Unfortunately, Solo: A Star Wars Story fell far short of expectations. Both fans and critics could not get much out of the prequel about the young smuggler (played by Alden Ehrenreich) and the sci-fi film was not convincing at the box office either.
Still, the film also has advocates who repeatedly call for a sequel to “Solo: A Star Wars Story” under the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen. Director Ron Howard gave fans little hope at the end of 2020 – and sadly little has changed two years later. While reviewing Ron Howard’s filmography, the ‘Solo’ director of also asked about a possible sequel. Unfortunately, the director’s answer is quite clear:
“The only discussion about a sequel to ‘Solo’ right now, as far as I know, is coming from the fans. I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.”
However, there is a glimmer of hope
Still, the filmmaker also gives fans hope that the film could get a sequel one day:
But they are great characters [in „Solo: A Star Wars Story“] introduced and the folks at Lucasfilm love the fans and really listen, so I’d never say never – but at this point I don’t know of any specific plans to expand the story or interact with this particular group of characters.”

And anyone who knows the ending of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” knows that there is still a lot to tell and that authors Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan must have had at least one idea for a sequel. As early as May 2019 indicated Jonathan Kasdanthat there is a war story in the life of gritty smuggler Han Solo that has yet to be told. A tweet at the time suggested that crime syndicates Crimson Dawn (led by Darth Maul), the Pykes and the Hutts were at odds.
A series sequel?
In addition, a sequel does not necessarily have to take place on the big screen. “The Mandalorian” and finally “Andorhave proven that Disney is very capable of telling great “Star Wars” stories in serial form.
That the fans have a certain power and can certainly convince a studio to realize projects if asked for long enough and by enough people, has already been seen with the Snyder Cut of the Justice League. Since 2017, fans have been using the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag to campaign for the release of the DC superhero movie Justice League in the version originally intended by Zack Snyder. And in 2021, the Snyder Cut should actually be released…
Even if there are currently no plans for a sequel to the movie, fans shouldn’t give up hope entirely…
