These are Blick readers’ top hangover prevention tips.

We prefer to start the new year with lots of fireworks and thunder. Unfortunately, our skulls are still crackling and buzzing the next morning.

No problem – we don’t want to judge anyone here, we just want to help you get through that frustrating New Year’s Eve as efficiently as possible.

That’s why we asked Blick readers for their unique ways to relieve their headaches. In doing so, we found that there are different types of brave hangover preventative fighters.

uncomplicated

It would actually be very simple: If you drink alcohol, you should also drink enough water. On page one of Drinking for Dummies. Blick reader Hans von Atzigen explains why: “Alcohol is broken down in the liver and it needs water for that.” If he doesn’t, his body is dehydrated, and voila: hangover.

Another reader named Simon has a tip on how to remember water: “When you’re partying, you often go to the bathroom. There you have to drink five large sips of water at a time,” he writes. Let’s remember.

A body battered by alcohol needs electrolytes. This is why many readers swear by isotonic drinks. “It’s best to have them ready in the fridge before you celebrate,” says Rick Schaller. But the real magic wand is Sprite, according to Cedric Stadler: “Acetaldehyde, the decomposition product of ethanol, breaks down most quickly with it,” he writes. We researched it, and a study from China agrees with it.

But for some of our community, this isn’t fast enough. Edwin Baldauf writes, “I swallow two cats: one called ‘Alka’ and the other called ‘Seltzer’ and the cat eats it till they get tired”. Others help with ibuprofen or other pain relievers. We would like to advise against this at this point – alcohol and medication are never a good combination.

hippies

At the other end of the spectrum are nature lovers who prefer to use herbal products instead of medicine cabinets. “There’s a herb for everything—or just a papaya,” writes Blick reader Monica Gähwiler. “The ripe pulp is said to contain an enzyme that relieves hangover symptoms.” Patrick Schmid finds that a kiwi in the morning relieves hangovers and worries.

Speaking of nature: Fresh air is actually good. That’s why Andreas Siegenthaler takes a hungover walk every time, and Celine Michelle takes precautions at night: “You should have good ventilation in the room and sleep with the window open if possible.”

There is some advice that we’re not entirely sure if the community is trolling us. “I drink half a liter of milk before I go to bed,” writes Patrick Schmid. “Again when you get up.” A White Russian, sorry, but the thought of drinking that much milk while drunk makes us nauseous. Unfortunately, our reader seems right: B vitamins in animal products are said to help detoxify the liver.

Speaking of creative approaches: Blick reader Milos Obradovic relies on sauerkraut juice. Yes, sauerkraut juice. Do not hesitate to try. we give up.

blindfolded

It’s not exactly healthy, of course, but some beat hangovers at their own game. “Pick up where you left off,” advises reader Thomas Killer. Counter beer also reliably helps Matthias Schneider: “If you manage to keep the booze down, the hangover is gone.” And Fritz Münger thinks it’s all or nothing: “There are only two solutions,” he writes. “Never stop or drink at all.” Which brings us to our final category:

sane ones

Number 77: Don’t let the cat in in the first place. From reader Elisabeth Plasencia “Quite simply, drink less!” “Open your mind in time and switch to soft drinks,” writes Rudolf Huber. Susanne Heyer also knows that hangovers can only be prevented if you drink in moderation.

Of course, that wasn’t the question, but when viewed soberly (pun intended)In fact, we all know that they are right.
