While adults take a contemplative walk enjoying the beautiful surroundings, children get bored on long journeys unless they have playmates with them. You can play various games with the little ones to have fun in the fresh air despite the cold. These pass the time, and during a snowball fight or, for example, while skating, you become beautiful and warm because you are physically exhausted.
There are also some adventures to offer you away from the ski slopes in the cold season. The following games and winter activities are family-friendly and easy to implement or can inspire a trip:
tobogganing
The most important feature of snowy winter days is sledding. It’s certainly the most fun for kids to be able to sprint down a slope on their sleds. If the chosen route of the excursion does not have a suitable slope, it is still fun for the little ones to take the sledge with them and sometimes be pulled by their parents in the snowy landscape. And maybe unexpectedly on the way you will find a small hill that you can go down?
make snow angels
Winter clothes for kids should always keep warm and ideally waterproof for this activity: make snow angels and enjoy the resulting artworks together in the snow. Simply lie on your back and extend your arms and legs to the side of your body. Now you move both your arms and legs along the edge of the ground, sliding through the snow, the outline of an angel appears in it. This results in beautiful photo motifs and are always funny.
snowball fight
Snowball fights are not for very young children yet, but as soon as they start to form and throw snowballs themselves, you can experience this winter activity with them. It is important to use only clean snow without ice, sticks or stones so that no one is injured. You must decide together in advance whether you will take turns throwing yourself, add special rules for younger participants, or do the snowball fight in a classic (i.e. chaotic) way.
make a snowman
In the city, in the garden or on the mountain – when it snows, many children look forward to making a snowman. Young people are also happy on the trips where snow figures are made together. It doesn’t always have to be a snowman, you can also make a snow woman, snow bunny or polar bear and decorate it with stones or sticks you collect along the way.
picnic in the snow
Instead of stopping at a restaurant or cafe, you can also organize a small picnic in the snow. You should bring hot drinks and, for example, hot soup or stew in thermal containers. This is a great way to warm and strengthen yourself while enjoying the fresh air.
Winter activities with toddlers – These are our favorites
ice skating
With a little practice, ice skating can make you feel like you can almost fly. Therefore, it is not surprising that children in particular enjoy it so much. In the beginning they still drive with the hands of adults or hold on to special figures that support them while driving. Most ice rinks rent skates, but you can bring your own. Children must wear a helmet while doing this sport.
Look for animal tracks in the snow
This activity requires some patience and good vision as you search for animal tracks in the snow together. Dogs, rabbits or deer leave clear footprints in the snow, while mice or small bird species are lighter and have smaller feet, making footprints in snow harder to detect. Whoever finds the most animal tracks on a hike or winter walk wins.
