It is important not only the delicious food that comes to the table, but also the beautiful laying of the table. But when it comes to table decorations, you don’t have to go overboard to have enough room on the table. In the center you can make a simple but effective decoration from fir tree branches, flowers, lanterns and candles. The festival doesn’t have to be strict. Brightly patterned tablecloths, ribbons and some Christmas decorations fit there. Add a little extra glamor with gold details.
To help you with that and make your next special occasion special, we’ve put together the following instructions for a classic venue setting for you.
placing the plate
Begin laying the bottom plates. This saves you from soiling the tablecloth. Use the chairs at the table for better orientation. The plate should be placed in front of the center of the chair and a little finger away from the edge of the table. Plates in the corresponding row should then be placed on the bottom plate.
Where to put all the cutlery?
The main course knife is placed to the right of the plate, and the main course fork is placed to the left of the plate. Make sure the cutlery is one finger width (or 1 cm) from the edge of the table. The starter cutlery for the main course is located right next to it. There is an appetizer knife to the right of the main course knife, and a tablespoon next to it. The appetizer fork goes to the left of the main course fork. This is placed slightly higher than the main course fork so that the top teeth of the main course fork line up with the lower end of the tines of the appetizer fork.
Dessert cutlery is placed on the bottom plate parallel to the edge of the table. Here, you should make sure that the handle of the dessert fork is on the left, and the dessert spoon is on the right of the handle. The space between the cutlery should be such that credit cards can be placed between them.
Correct lens alignment
Glasses are arranged in a triangle on the cutlery on the right. The stem of the red wine glass should form a 90-degree angle with the dessert fork and main course knife. Place the water glass over the tablespoon, slightly below the red wine glass. The white wine glass finds its place on the water glass. Again, do not forget to leave a gap of about one centimeter between the glasses. There should be a maximum of four glasses per guest on the table. The fourth will be, for example, for a cup.
bread plate
Place the bread plate on the outside, next to the cutlery on the left. There are two options here. You either align it with the teeth of the starter fork on a line or in the middle of the bottom plate. Finally, place the butter knife on the right edge of the bread plate.
Napkin
If you did not place the bread plate in the middle of the bottom plate, you can place the napkin under the bread plate. Apart from that, you can fold napkins and place them on plates using folding techniques. Cloth napkins are best for this.
