As the official media partner of the Fantasy Filmfest, FILMSTARTS will be the first to know which films will be screened in the coming editions of the festival! So far we have already introduced you to six of the ten films that will be screened in January and February 2023 at the Fantasy Filmfest White Nights. Now the full program is set – and among the last four films is the dark black Norwegian comedy “Good Boy”, which you can immediately see is the makings of a cult classic…
New Movie #1: “Good Boy”
Norwegian author Viljar Bøe’s new film is almost certainly labeled a “cult film” – if anything, the story is so absurd it’s hard to imagine that the sharp 76 minutes of “Good Boy” couldn’t be truly outstanding if they would have been entertained in a gloomily deranged way:
The son of the millionaire Christian meets the young student Sigrid using a dating app. The two get along well and spend the night together. But the next morning there is a problem: when Sigrid realizes that Christian does not live alone, but with Frank, a man who not only wears a dog costume, but also acts like a dog everywhere, her first instinct is to run away immediately…
New Movie #2: “Prison 77”
With “Mörderland”, Alberto Rodríguez has delivered one of the excellent cinema thrillers of the past ten years – the dark murder hunt even got a German remake: “Freies Land” by Christian Alvart. Now the Spanish director continues with another historical thriller:
In “Prison 77” in 1977, a young accountant awaits his impending trial for embezzlement. He faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years. His only way out of prison: he closes himself a group of young prisoners willing to fight for their impunity by force if necessary…
New Movie #3: “Soft and Quiet”
calls Beth de Araújo’s feature debut the “most shocking film of the year”. A real-time American nightmare revolving around an elementary school teacher who organizes a gathering of “Aryan daughters”. If you believe the previous reviews, a horror thriller can hardly be more painful than “Soft & Quiet”…
New Movie #4: “The Lockdown Tower”
The French mystery horror “The Lockdown Tower” has already been screened at the prestigious fantasy film festivals in Deauville and Sitges – and comes from Guillaume Nicloux, who has mainly attracted attention so far with the films “Valley Of Love” and “The Nun”. Has:
In the heart of the city, the residents of a high-rise wake up – to discover that the entire building is suddenly enveloped in an opaque fog. However, this not only obstructs the view, but also the opening of doors and windows. It is a dark matter that devours anything it tries to penetrate. At first the residents unite to find a way out together – but then their survival instincts throw them back to their primitive instincts and the interior of the high-rise eventually sinks into chaotic horror…
