When it comes to delivered food, the Swiss like it unhealthy and boring. However, there are major regional differences.

Where can you eat healthiest? In which city do people order the most candy? And what is the most popular day to order a pizza? The Uber annual review for Switzerland 2022, which the California company has made available to us, answers these and other vital questions.

Let’s start with the basics: the favorite dish of Swiss Uber users. On its app, the company advertises the wide variety of dishes: in 2022 there were 140 different food categories. And yet the most ordered meal was…

This is “no surprise at all,” as Uber points out. Order volume for burgers is highest on Sunday evenings. The rest of the stage is filled as follows:

  1. Asian
  2. Italian

Even the most popular drink should not surprise you, because it is…

However, the delivery service also notes that not everything always comes down to the classic burger-fries-coci trio: Fourth place in the ranking is for dishes labeled “healthy”. There is also an increasing demand for vegan meals – about 30 percent more than in 2021.

One city in Switzerland stands out because people there seem to particularly like to be healthy. For this it even received the “Healthiest Award”, ie the title for the healthiest city in Switzerland. This is, who would have thought, about…

Fun fact: the town on the Limmat has been awarded another, less flattering title: the “Most Caffeinated Award”. In other words: most coffees are ordered in Zurich. Questionable titles are also dusted off in Western Switzerland: Lausanne receives the “Biggest Sweet Tooth Award” because that is where the most sweets are ordered.

And speaking of sweets, the most popular cold coffee drink in Switzerland is the Iced Caramel Macchiato. It looks a bit duller when warm – a normal caffé latte.

Of course, pizza is also very popular when it comes to food. There, Uber in Switzerland observes a trend that is emerging worldwide: the return to the classics (or declining creativity, whichever way you look at it). In Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich and Basel, the Margherita tops the list.

However, Switzerland’s “pizza city”, ie the city where most pizzas are delivered, is Bern. According to Uber Eats, a “surprising result”. And the most popular day to order a pizza is Sunday.

Finally, a small anecdote: the most expensive order of the year was a hefty CHF 3657.90. That is 2.66 times the average net rent in 2020. 114 items were ordered. (cpf)
