TV Tip: Two of the best adventure films of all time are shown back to back today – an evening couldn’t get any more gripping!

If you’re not in the mood for sci-fi, horror or comedy today, but for adventure, RTL ZWEI is the channel par excellence on Sunday evening. Two of the best adventure films of all time are shown right after each other – but you’ll need a lot of patience: the fun starts at 8:15pm and doesn’t end until 1:40am.

It starts at 8:15 PM with the fantastic desert island adventure “Gone – Gone“, for which Tom Hanks received a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar. We awarded “Cast Away” 4.5 out of 5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review, and in our list of the greatest adventure films of all time, the Robinson Crusoe variation from “Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis was ranked 20th.

Old hat you think? We find, Tom Hanks’ excellent performance as Chuck Holland, stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash and struggling to survive, can be seen over and over again.

Because not only Chuck’s physical well-being is at stake, but also his mental health. And how Tom Hanks, like a lonely man with only a volleyball “company”, continues to fight not to despair and not to give up hope, is great cinema.

Just as gripping as “Cast Away” is the film that awaits you on RTL 2 on December 11 at 11:05 PM. But while “Cast Away” doesn’t exactly flaunt action, “Master and Commander“There is much more to offer in that area. There are epic naval battles here – but also plenty of unadorned naval drama.

Peter Weir’s “Master & Commander – To the End of the World” reached number 28 in our adventure movie ranking. War film, adventure and character study come together in the historical drama with Russell Crowe, who, as a British captain, hunts down a French ship in the 19th century. It’s poignant, gritty and intense – don’t expect a romantic sailor yarn à la “Pirates of the Caribbean” here.

Missed on TV? Both films are also available as a streaming subscription

If you prefer to watch both films without commercials or if the TV evening lasts just too long until well after midnight, you can currently watch both films in streaming subscriptions.

›› “Master and Commander” on Disney+* // “Cast Away” on Amazon Prime Video*

And here’s another streaming tip for anyone who can’t get enough of adventure movies: The gripping drama “Into The Wild” is currently available as a Prime Video subscription and also on Netflix, based on a true story and also one of the best adventure films of all time in our opinion. Our author Monta Alaine tells you why it’s worth checking out in the following article:
