Gone are the days when there was usually a year between seasons of a series. In many of the increasingly complex productions it is now two years – including “Shadow And Bone – The Legends Of Grisha”. Season 1 of the fantasy series was released on Netflix in April 2021 and now we finally know the start date for season 2: it’s March 16, 2023.
It’s still a bit of a wait, but Netflix is at least easing the wait with the first images of the second season, which you can view later in this article. And it shouldn’t be long before the first trailer is released.
Season 2: Alina against Kirigan
And what is the second season of the Netflix hit based on the books by Leigh Bardugo about? Here’s a summary for it too: “In Season 2, Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) is on the run. To some she is a glimmer of hope, to others a suspected traitor. Alina is determined to tear down the Shadow Corridor and save Ravka from destruction. But General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) has returned to finish what he started.”
We also see the mentioned General Kirigan in the Season 2 pictures and it becomes clear that the Dark One’s fight with a Volcra in the Season 1 finale didn’t go unnoticed – his face is covered with scars.

The Netflix synopsis goes on to say that Kirigan is gathering an army of shadow monsters and terrifying Grisha after him, posing a bigger threat than ever. Alina and her friend Mal (Archie Renaux) must find new allies to stand a chance against him. The search for two magical creatures that will allow Alina to increase her powers takes her on a journey across the continent.
And of course the crows in season 2 should not be missing. When the gang led by Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) gets the chance to pull off a large but potentially deadly heist, their paths cross with solar warrior Alina.
