5 tips for the right outfit on the ski slopes

Here we explain what clothes you should wear for skiing or snowboarding and what materials are suitable.

The onion principle with the right ingredients

By the onion principle, you put a lower, middle and upper layer. The lowest consists of ski underwear, which is located directly on the skin. Synthetic materials work best because they absorb almost no moisture. Thermal underwear for skis usually consists of synthetic fiber material and is elastic.

Comfortable fleece jackets or sweaters made of heat-storing merino wool are especially suitable for the middle layer. The top layer is responsible for weather protection. It should be protected from wind, snow or generally wet conditions. It should be breathable and waterproof. When choosing a ski jacket, you should also pay attention to the other functions of the jacket. For example, bag aisles where you can put your belongings are useful.

Wear a ski mask and helmet

You should protect yourself as best you can as many accidents happen while skiing. The head is particularly sensitive, so you should always wear a helmet. This can reduce the risk of head injuries and craniocerebral trauma. The helmet also keeps your head warm. On very cold days, you can also wear a ski mask under the helmet.

When you put on the helmet, you should make sure that you close it well and that it does not slip while riding. You need to replace the ski helmet after a fall. Otherwise, you should replace it after about eight years because then the material will collapse.

Ski socks and heated soles

You need the right ski socks to keep your feet warm. They also absorb sweat and make feet and ski boots smell less. Good ski socks can also prevent injuries and improper loading.

For “Gföörlis” we recommend special heated socks or warm soles for ski boots. They increase well-being and protect against hypothermia and injury. Heated socks are available in a wide variety of designs.

the right gloves

Gloves not only keep our hands warm, but also protect us from injuries caused by sharp-edged skis in the event of a fall. With finger gloves, you have more mobility and can grip better. You have warmer hands with gloves.

It is important not to wear gloves that are too small. Because if the glove is too tight, it affects the blood flow and less heat is produced.

Ski goggles or sunglasses?

During winter sports in the mountains, the sun’s rays are particularly strong, which is harmful to the eyes. That’s why you should protect them with ski goggles. But is it enough to just wear sunglasses? When skiing, no. Because sunglasses do not provide side protection. This is how coldness comes to the face, especially the forehead. It is often difficult to see in dark conditions with sunglasses lenses.

Ski goggles are better. It has anti-fog coatings, UV protection, and some even have climate control. This gives you a better view in light-shadow situations.
