Can I flirt at the Christmas party?

Christmas parties, especially at work, are known as sleepover essentials or drinking parties and seem like there’s little in between. This is definitely a An event where you unintentionally meet some people. And alcohol, which is often poured in large quantities, is often not innocent when an argument with co-workers gets out of control again.

Here are some questions about the Christmas party at the company

Can’t I attend the Christmas party?

Company celebrations give the impression of volunteering. But this is deceptive. These are business events, so participation is a duty, at least morally. Because it’s part of the company tradition and important to the boss. Or because management wants to show appreciation for good cooperation at the end of the year. If you don’t come, you say “I don’t care”. This can appear distant and arrogant, express a lack of appreciation, and can have a bad effect on the work atmosphere. So for those who don’t like Christmas parties and/or are shy, the following applies: pull yourself together and look as organized as possible. Even if there are inconsistencies at work. Christmas dinner is the wrong place to think about problems.

Do I need to dress extra?

Probably yes. The person should appear “properly dressed”. That means: suitable for the occasion. A sleek suit or high-heeled evening shoes look just as out of place at a rustic clubhouse party as washed jeans and sturdy motorcycle boots at a gourmet restaurant.

I’m just going to the corporate party because our controller is going too. He’s cute. Can I flirt with him?

A borderline relationship. Here, too, it should always be borne in mind: the Christmas dinner is a professional event, it shapes the reputation and image of the individual. How you behave may be a topic that will be discussed for a long time in the company. Targeting someone goes too far. Discreet flirting, on the other hand, is allowed, but only if both are not connected. Discretion means avoiding too close physical contact. So no erotic dance routines. And it would be strange if the controller suddenly sat on the accountant’s lap. Couples should also avoid being too sensitive: constant clinging has a special effect on others. He is there to have fun with his colleagues in the evening.

If this is a snack, then it’s true: It won’t bother anyone if I pour a few more glasses – or will it?

Social gatherings encourage you to drink more alcohol than you can handle. In a business setting, this can leave a deadly impression. Being on time gives you self-control and prevents you from saying or doing things that you will regret the next day. If someone has gone too far—for example, speaking rudely at the table—there’s only one thing left to do: apologize completely the next day. And hope for a second chance.
