“Sympathy for hyenas”: Bernese rapper Tommy Vercetti releases new mixtape

The Bernese rapper Tommy Vercetti, known as a critic of state, capital and society, has announced a new album. “Sympathy for Hyenas” is out this Friday and is critical as usual.

“Sympathy for Hyena” is a so-called mixtape and so no surprise for Vercetti fans. The rapper has released 13 mixtapes in his career. In other words, album-long releases that come across as demo tapes to newcomers because of their spontaneously written lyrics, often rapped over foreign instrumentals.

What is special about “Sympathie für Hyäne” is that Vercetti – alone or with feature guests – completely raps about his own productions. The sound is raw and haunting. This stylistic device also fits well in terms of content, because Vercetti seems to be blowing off steam.

Simon Küffer, as Tommy Vercetti’s real name is, criticizes the “questionable Corona policy” in his new tracks, among other things, and addresses the fact that young people are left alone, the role of music and broken masculinity. Along with rapper Manillio, he also talks about having kids as an artist in their league. “Starnä si forever: mini Suisa dini Suisa, if it’s not long for a yacht de for a night at Matsuhisa,” reads “For Aui Kids”.
