“My mother fell for a love con artist…”

My mom had a really bad time after my dad died. She was often alone and mourned a lot. They were married for 30 years, understandably. Now, after a very dark year, I recently heard her “giggle” again when she was on her cell phone. I asked what was so funny – then she said she had been texting a nice guy from London for a few weeks. He would be very polite and nice to her and very handsome. He would even become a doctor and work for an aid organization in Weissgottwo.

Of course all alarm bells went off with me and I told her this is a scammer who just wants her money. She had never seen the man before, she shouldn’t believe a word he said. But my mother just waved me off, I wouldn’t spoil her with anything!

I already found out through my sister that she was about to transfer money to her new “boyfriend”, but my sister managed to discourage her at the last minute. I just hope now that she will listen to my sister and that she can teach my mother some sense. She doesn’t listen to me.

How can I help my mother? Have you ever experienced something similar? How can this be prevented in the future? The spam filter doesn’t seem to be working very well…
