James Cameron makes movies for the big screen. This message was conveyed once again a few months ago when “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” was re-released in a new revised version (which essentially turned the blockbuster into an entirely new movie experience) – and the movie practically disappeared from Disney+ in the same breath .
But the sci-fi fantasy blockbuster that came about in 2009 under 20th Century Fox is now part of the Maushaus family, which also owns the streaming rights. And you couldn’t have imagined a better time for a comeback: “Avatar – Leave for Pandora” is now back online Disney+ available!
» “Avatar – Destiny to Pandora” on Disney+*
Exactly three weeks before the highly anticipated sequel “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” hits theaters on December 14, 2022, its predecessor, which still holds the title of highest-grossing film of all time, is likely to become a streaming hit in on Disney+ in the coming weeks. A lot of people probably haven’t seen the movie since they went to the cinema 13 years ago – you can refresh your memory there. In any case, in preparation for “The Way Of Water” it can’t hurt to make a detour to Pandora beforehand and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of the Na’vi.
“Avatar”: The downside of Disney+
On Disney+ you have the choice between the cinema version and the original version in the “Family Soundtrack” (found under the point ), in which offensive language has been removed, so that subscribers can also experience the film with their slightly younger offspring. Although it is questionable who actually falls back on such a linguistically unreadable version, However, two versions of the movie are missing from the platform, which “Avatar” fans would have been more happy with: the extended theatrical version and the extended collector’s edition. These are only available on DVD and Blu-ray (in the set including theatrical version):
» “Avatar” Expanded Collector’s Edition on DVD and Blu-ray*
While the extended theatrical version is at least eight minutes longer than the version shown in theaters, the extended version is even a whopping 16 minutes longer. The latter version is especially exciting because it is ushered in with an alternative opening scene in which we also get impressions of Jake Sully’s (Sam Worthington) life on earth.
Although “The Way Of Water” is of course a sequel to the well-known theater version, the author of this article always prefers the Extended Cut to the theater version. The extra scenes simply add to the world building and make the world of Pandora even more interesting.
“Avatar 2”: new trailer promises more emotions, more action and more spectacle
By the way, the Disney+ comeback of “Aufbruch nach Pandora” goes hand in hand with the new trailer for “The Way Of Water”, which was released yesterday:
The latest preview of “Avatar 2” promises to be a visual spectacle unlike anything we’ve seen before – and comes with even more emotion and action than the previous trailers. After all, the war between the humans and the Na’vi is not only entering the next round, but also reaching completely new dimensions: after Jake Sully and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are forced to leave their homeland with their families, the coasts and seas of Pandora at their side, the Metkayina people.
