Chemistry is so incredibly fascinating – in 21 gifs

Chemistry and physics are sciences in their own right (true words, right?). For people familiar with them, they present incredibly exciting and interesting opportunities. To others – including the author of this story – it just seems like a magic trick. And now we are going to show them to you. In that sense: Expecto Patronum!

The so-called “elephant toothpaste” consists of catalytically degraded hydrogen peroxide, added potassium iodide, a dash of washing-up liquid and some water.

Sulfuric acid meets sugar. (Who comes up with that?)

Sodium polyacrylate mixed with water.

He mixes hydrogen peroxide with potassium iodide.

It should be hot water and liquid nitrogen.

A coke and chlorine are mixed.

Still fascinating, this combustion of hydrogen bubbles.

Okay, not quite physics, not quite chemistry: Microscopic seaweed causes this blue glow off the coast of Southern California.

This steel wool becomes heavier when burned.

According to the person who uploaded the video, this is what happens when iodine oxide and iron powder are ignited.

Here boric acid trimethyl ester (trimethyl borate) is burned.

And boom, she’s gone. 🪄
