For about two weeks now, “Guadians Of The Galaxy” and “The Suicide Squad” director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran (including “Aquaman”) have been at the helm of the newly founded DC Studios and they don’t waste time on their mission to download all the movies, series, games, etc. This is now also underlined by some statements by the new Warner boss David Zaslav.
According to Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery since April 2022 and already working there with the iron broom, he recently emphasized that at an event that Gunn and Safran were close to completing a “Bible” for DC.
In this case, it does not mean holy scriptures, but a kind of document summarizing the goals, guidelines and context that will apply to all DC projects from now on. It must therefore also record the large master plan and the overarching history for the coming years.
“There Won’t Be 4 Batmans Anymore”
“I think you’ll see some growth and opportunity at DC over the next few years; there won’t be four Batmans,” said Zaslav in the conversation (via ). “Part of our strategy is to get the absolute maximum out of DC, and James is doing just that [Gunn] and Peter [Safran]. I think they wowed the fans.”
Particularly interesting here is Zaslav’s statement that there will no longer be four (or more) Batmans from now on – because that’s how DC has been for the past few years and it only seemed to get bigger.
There was Ben Affleck as DCEU Batman and Michael Keaton’s imminent comeback in The Flash (and originally other DC titles as well). Bruce Wayne / Batman has also starred in Joker, Gotham, Titans, Pennyworth and will star in the upcoming Gotham Knights series.
That alone is significantly more than four different versions of Batman, but everything has to be different in the future – and apparently more like Marvel and the MCU where (aside from deliberate multiverse shenanigans) there’s only one version of each character and gradually all of the previously separate Marvel universes (“Spider-Man”, “X-Men”) are being transferred to the MCU.
Bad cards for Ben Affleck & Michael Keaton
On the one hand, this probably means that all DC projects should gradually become part of a common DC universe (DCU). and the probably also means that the upcoming performances of am Affleck and Michael Keaton then the really last will be and Robert Pattinson is now the one and only Batman of the DCU.
Starting with The Flash, Keaton was originally going to be something like DC’s Nick Fury and go on to get a lot more gigs, but Zaslav says those plans are now finally in the past. Similarly, Affleck’s comeback in “The Flash” is also apparently his farewell appearance. And whether the appearance in “Aquaman 2” that was leaked some time ago will still take place as planned is also in doubt.
Robert Pattinson, on the other hand, is only at the beginning of his career as a Dark Knight. “The Batman” was a huge success for Warner and DC and will not only hit theaters, but also in serial form.
