So you can vacuum more environmentally friendly

Protecting our planet’s resources is a must and a concern for many consumers. Even while cleaning. Home appliance manufacturer Electrolux took this fact into account early on. The Swedish company launched the first eco-friendly vacuum cleaner made from recycled plastic in 2008, followed by a limited series made from ocean plastic in 2010. The experience gained as a result was transferred to the Green Collection as we know it today.

What the latest appliances are about: Not only are they very energy efficient, they’re largely made of plastic from old, discarded appliances. For example, models in the Pure D8.2 series are made of 55 percent recycled plastic, while the Green model is made of 75 percent recycled plastic.

It’s good for the environment because less plastic needs to be regenerated. This means less oil consumption. Today, more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide each year. Just under 12 percent is made from recycled materials. Electrolux aims to use 50 percent recycled plastic in all household appliances by 2030.

In 2020, Electrolux has also developed a prototype vacuum cleaner that is 100 percent recyclable, together with Sweden’s leading recycling company Stena Recycling. This means that all parts can be reused or recycled. This means that no valuable material is lost and no waste when the device serves its purpose.

However, existing devices contribute to more ecological vacuuming. For example, the cordless Ultimate 800 Green offers an easily replaceable battery in addition to its 65 percent recycled plastic content. “Consumers can buy a new battery and simply insert it. This can extend both the runtime and the lifetime of the appliance,” says Marius Rübenacker, product manager for vacuum cleaners at Electrolux.

With an average energy consumption of 21.8 kWh per year, the Pure D8.2 Green skid vacuum cleaner is one of the most energy-efficient models. Most importantly, because it recognizes the floor type and automatically adjusts the suction power accordingly. It also has the largest share of recycled plastic with 75 percent. Also nice: Extremely quiet sweeps at 57 decibels.

A Green model is also available in each of the other Electrolux model lines, including the Electrolux 600 bagless vacuum cleaner and the 2-in-1 vacuum cleaners Well Q7 and Pure Q9. Additional plus: The packaging of all Green models is made of 100 percent recycled and recyclable materials.
