It has now been announced that the John Wick prequel series The Continental will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In the United States, however, the format will end up on Peacock after the streaming service recently acquired the rights to the “John Wick” movies. So fans can now take a deep breath, as it was not clear for a long time how and where one could enjoy “The Continental” in this country.
Set before the “John Wick” movies, the series is about the origins of the hotel of the same name, which is a sort of refuge for John Wick (Keanu Reeves) and all the other active hitmen. The series is told from the perspective of the then young hotel manager Winston Scott (Colin Woodell). Viewers follow Winston as he roams the underworld of 1970s New York, challenging the demons of his past to do battle – eventually taking control of the iconic hotel.
The Continental will consist of three episodes averaging 90 minutes each. Besides Colin Woodell are Ayomide Agedun (“Panam Tributes”), Peter Green (“Pulp Fiction”), Mel Gibson (“Blood Father”), Ben Robson (“Vikings”), Hubert Point-Du Jour (“The Good Lord Bird “)”), Jessica Allain (“Thriller”), Mishel Prada (“Fear The Walking Dead”) and Nhung Kate (“The Housemaid”) joined the cast. While the film’s creators, David Leitch and Chad Stahelski , the executive producers are, directing Albert Hughes (Episode 1 & 3) and Charlotte Brändström (Episode 2).
If anyone is still hoping that Keanu Reeves will also drop by “The Continental” – it won’t be. There shouldn’t even be a cameo in the room. Since the series is set in the 1970s, there would be no point in integrating John Wick into the events in any way (except as a small child?!). As of March 23, 2023, Reeves is “John Wick: Chapter 4” but back on the big screen as an assassin. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can catch it here:
