Landed Sam Raimi with his low-budget thriller “Tanz der Teufel” (original title: “The Evil Dead”), one of the most iconic horror classics of the 80s, before starting the fun splatter grenade “Tanz der Teufel 2” and the Fantasy comedy with a horror element “Army of Darkness”, Fede Alvarez has immortalized himself with many fans with his new edition “Evil Dead”. But whether this is truly “the most shocking movie you’ll ever see,” as the official poster for the film suggests, is an open question at this point. The shocker was certainly not lacking in blood and atmosphere. “Evil Dead Rise” has to keep up with that.
Director Lee Cronin (“The Hole In The Ground”, “50 States Of Fright”) thus has big shoes to fill, which he already tries to fill in advance. The filmmaker announced a few months ago that many, many, many liters of fake blood were used for his film. As a preview of the carnage likely to spiral out of control, here’s a first official photo from the film, which “Tanz der Teufel” veteran and “Evil Dead Rise” producer Bruce Campbell shared on social media:
Only a small part of the announced 6,500 (!) liters of fake blood can be seen in the snapshot, but the photo is mainly one thing: quite scary.
We can only hope that the film can eventually convey this feeling. Maybe we’ll see a first trailer soon, which should give more information. After all, “Evil Dead Rise” will hit German cinemas on April 20, 2023. Horror lovers can mark the day in red on their calendar – that’s less than six months!
What awaits you in “Evil Dead Rise”
After the original trilogy, the 2013 reboot, and the series offshoot “Ash Vs. Evil Dead,” which saw Bruce Campbell slip back into his cult role, things should be different in the fifth feature of the legendary horror saga. Although Campbell will again be absent (at least not in front of the camera), we also get to see a new location this time.
Because in “Evil Dead Rise” evil is not in a remote cabin in the woods, but in the middle of the big city! At the center of the story are the two sisters Beth and Ellie, who find an old, mysterious book in a dilapidated house. However, the two have no idea that this is the book of the dead that summons evil demons.
The two lead roles are played by Alyssa Sutherland, known for series such as “Vikings” and “The Mist”, and the lesser-known Lily Sullivan, who you’ve probably seen alongside Daniel Radcliffe in “Jungle”.
