Three years after the end of “Game Of Thrones” we got to see the first offshoot of the fantasy mega-hit with “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon” in 2022 – which fans loved. Or at least all those who use Sky or have a streaming subscription to WOW. Everyone else has to be patient for now. But the good news is: not for long.
House Of The Dragon will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray on December 20, 2022, just in time for Christmas – The latter will also be available as a strictly limited collector’s edition in a steel book, which you can now protect:

If you don’t want to wait that long or don’t feel like putting films and series on the shelves, since everything is digital these days, you will be served even earlier. You can also pre-order the first season of “House Of The Dragon” as video-on-demand, for example at Amazon Prime Video. The release date is November 16.

Pre-ordering is especially worthwhile if the noble limited edition in the 4K Steelbook appeals to you. The limited edition will probably sell out sooner or later and will probably cost you a few euros more on the third market. The standard editions will probably be available in adequate form at the start of sales – and as a video-on-demand, “House Of The Dragon” won’t walk away from you anyway.
“House Of The Dragon”: Season 2 is coming – even if it takes a while…
200 years before Daenerys Targaryen will claim the throne of Westeros, the prequel tells the story of her ancestors who rule the land with their mighty dragons. So that means: the same world we already know from “Game Of Thrones”, in which many new faces jump around – for example from Paddy Considine (“Peaky Blinders”), Emma D’Arcy (“Truth Seekers”), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”), Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) and “Dr. Who” actor Matt Smith. The good news: It will definitely go back to that world after Season 1. The bad news: It’ll be a while before the time has come.
The 2nd season “House Of The Dragon”, which of course has been around for a long time, will not be released before 2024, as recently confirmed by HBO boss Casey Bloys. Shooting won’t start until spring 2023 – and with a production of such massive proportions, it takes a while for a full season to be shot. Then of course follows the post-production, which naturally also takes some time with such visually stunning material.
Our video editor Sebastian has already thought a lot about how the second season could continue. To some extent this is already known, after all “House Of The Dragon” is based on the long published novel “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin. But don’t worry, Sebastian completely waives book spoilers:
