Mother gives birth to a “wrong” child

In Israel, a woman was accidentally impregnated with the “wrong embryo”. The child is not genetically related to the woman or her husband. The couple accidentally became aware of this error when the pregnant woman was undergoing a check-up at another clinic.

As reported by “The Times of Israel,” the woman involved gave birth to a healthy girl on Wednesday.

After the error was announced, the clinic where the accident happened had all women who had undergone artificial insemination at the same time tested. It was believed to have found the child’s biological parents and notified them.

This couple, who still have no children, went to court and demanded custody of the girl. There was a public fight and a real mud fight between the two couples.

On Tuesday, a day before the birth, an Israeli family court rejected the second couple’s custody request. This was after another test showed that the second couple were not the biological parents of the child after all. The girl is allowed to stay with her parents for the time being.

The new parents want to raise the girl as their own girl. Through her lawyers, the mother announced that her lifelong dream had come true with the birth of her daughter: “I am tired and exhausted. I had wanted a baby for many years and went through grueling treatments until the long-awaited moment arrived. I ask you to leave me alone and allow me to raise her.”

If the hospital were ordered to look for the child’s biological mother, up to 40 women would have to undergo further tests. After that, a custody battle can take place.
