The Congo Pollera Festival is just around the corner, a traditional event held in Portobelo, Colón.
The central idea of the activity is to revive the spirit of the old palenques, settlements of black maroons who fled to the mountains from the Spanish plantations in search of their freedom, where the Queen of the Congo ruled, guardian and responsible for the rituals and life of the community, also welcoming visitors from neighboring palenques who arrived by water, with the hospitality and generosity typical of African peoples, thus turning the palenque into a unique place to share their customs, food, drink, dance, music and dance.
Festival of Congo skirt will celebrate its sixth edition on April 13.
