‘Road House’, a remake of the 1989 cult crime film of the same name, is currently enjoying great success on Amazon Prime Video. An obvious question, of course: which of the two main characters named Dalton would win in a hypothetical duel? Jake Gyllenhaal from the remake? Or the one played by Patrick Swayze from the original 1980s “Road House”?
This question was of course also asked to Jake Gyllenhaal during the promotional tour for the new ‘Road House’. In an interview with The new Dalton actor proved himself an expert on the original for the first time by quoting a line of dialogue from this film: “Well, we all know size doesn’t matter, right? This is from the original movie.”
At 1.78 meters (Patrick Swayze) and 1.82 meters (Jake Gyllenhaal), the height differences between the two actors are negligible anyway, so perhaps the new Dalton is concerned with muscle mass? Regardless, Gyllenhaal further explained:
“So, [Swayze] I would definitely be dancing around a lot, so I couldn’t win. I believe, because of the technology and advances in engineering, I would say my Dalton would win. But if we faced each other in the 80s, I would give Patrick the win.“
So it depends on the decade in which the two figures would clash, Gyllenhaal summarized his thoughts together again, and then close with another quote: “No one ever wins a fight”.
Jake Gyllenhaal vs. Conor McGregor
While such considerations remain just a mental game, Gyllenhaal had to face a completely different opponent in ‘Road House’ in the form of Knox, played by MMA star and UFC champion Conor McGregor. And during a rehearsal for the recordings, Gyllenhaal was actually allowed to experience what it feels like when such a martial arts professional strikes.
