It’s been 21 years since Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis swapped bodies in the cult comedy ‘Freaky Friday’. At the end of the film, mother and daughter were of course transported back into their own bodies – but now the next switchover is just around the corner: After preparations for “Freaky Friday 2” have been underway for some time, Disney has finally given the green light and has already found a director for the project.
How reported, takes over Nisha Ganatra (“Welcome to Chippendales”) directed “Freaky Friday 2.” And a photo of Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”) proves that things are really being done right Posted. It shows Lindsay Lohan’s long-awaited reunion with her film mother – not yet on camera, but in private.
But with the accompanying commentary, Curtis is clearly celebrating the announcement of the Disney sequel: “DUH! FFDEUX!” write the actors – and “FFDEUX” of course stands for “Freaky Friday Deux”, or “Freaky Friday Two”.
“Freaky Friday 2”: Filming begins in summer 2024
And in a few months, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis will actually be in front of the camera together, because everything is moving very quickly now: Filming for ‘Freaky Friday’ is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2024 in Los Angeles. Officially, Lohan and Curtis are still “in negotiations” about their return – but this is probably just about contract details, as the photo of Jamie Lee Curtis makes it more than clear that the two stars want to slip back into their roles.
Details about the content of ‘Freaky Friday 2’ are not yet known, but what it is roughly about is clear: after teenager Anna (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) switched bodies with the help of a magical fortune cookie in ‘Freaky Friday’ and so I found more understanding for each other, Mother and daughter can now put themselves in each other’s shoes again and discover what it is like to be a woman in her thirties or sixties today.
Stream on Disney+ or cinema?
Andrew Gunn, who produced the hit 2003 comedy, returns to produce the sequel. However, there is still a big question mark behind the film’s release platform: It is not yet known whether “Freaky Friday 2” will be released in theaters or directly on streaming Disney+ will come.
You can currently see Lindsay Lohan on Netflix in the hit rom-com “Irish Wish” (where our news photo above comes from). And if you want to see Jamie Lee Curtis in full force, then you should definitely take a look at the series “The Bear” on Disney+, which is definitely worth watching – in season 2 Curtis has an unforgettable guest appearance as the mother of chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White).
