This is a Halloween pumpkin. The variety is really called, it is ideal for carving. Although edible, the pulp is not really edible, but rather bland. It is ideal for carving as its flesh is not very thick. The interior consists almost entirely of cavities and cores. That’s why it’s perfect as a “pumpkin Halloween lantern.”
the right tool
Logically, we need a pumpkin to carve a pumpkin, a knife to carve, a spoon to carve, and a pencil to paint the pumpkin’s face so we know where to carve it later.
How to
- First we need to cut off the top of the pumpkin.
- For this, we drew the shape we wanted.
- Then carefully cut off the lid with a knife.
- When you have finished carving around the stem, you can gently grasp and pull the stem.
- With the lid closed, it’s time to empty it. You actually have to scrape off all the seeds and all the pulp.
- When the zucchini is empty, the inside is nicely and cleanly hollowed out.
- Then we can start drawing on the face – with a pencil.
- First we draw on the eyes. Next comes the nose. Then comes the mouth. And then we’re going to make some more teeth.
- When we’re done drawing the face, it’s time to draw the line with the knife… and cut out the eyes, mouth and nose.
carving tips
Just be a little careful when carving. Especially if you are carving with a sharp knife. Not because you cut your fingers. You don’t have to be afraid of breaking things either. Pumpkins are usually relatively firm and you can always improve things.
It’s not that hard to carve your own pumpkin lantern. There is no limit to creativity – Halloween may come.
