Eight years after ‘Star Trek: Beyond’, fans of the Enterprise saga are still waiting for a new installment. It was sometimes unclear whether there would be another role with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, or the actors of Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Co. would be changed or a fresh start would be attempted with a completely new crew. It is also very possible that all variants will eventually come! But first there’s an update to “Star Trek 4with Chris Pine.
There’s officially a new screenwriter joining Starfleet, and that’s always a good sign that things are moving forward. How reported, now writing Steve Yockey the script for a yet-untitled “Star Trek 4.” And although there are no details yet about the story, it will actually be the final chapter of the reboot saga, which in addition to Chris Pine will also include Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldaña as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu and Simon Pegg as Scotty are involved.
“Star Trek 4” has been in the works since 2016…
Since 2016, there have been repeated attempts to bring this crew back together on screen, most recently with Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) in the director’s chair and a script by Lindsey Beer (“Cuddly Toy Cemetery: Bloodlines”) and Geneva Robertson – Dworet (“Captain Marvel”). These people are no longer involved – but Beer at least gave the positive update in the summer of 2023 that the project was still in progress, but that they had to leave due to lack of time.
There is now a new author, Steve Yockey, on board and another attempt can be made. Maybe this time the stars are right. Yockey’s experience comes primarily from series production, including writing scripts for “Supernatural” And “The stewardess“. He is also co-creator of the series with “The Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco.
Another ‘Star Trek’ project from the director of ‘Andor’
But “Star Trek” will soon continue in theaters WITHOUT Captain Kirk and Co. As mentioned above, Paramount is simultaneously working on many different options to keep the sci-fi saga going on the big screen. This includes a “Star Trek” project from screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vamir Hunter”) and director Toby Haynes (“Andor”) in development and will take place decades before JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot starring the Chris Pine crew.
