“Face/Off 2” should go ahead, but two other action spectacles are likely to take priority

For over five years, news has been circulating around the industry that a sequel to the cult action film ‘Face/Off’ is in development. Things really got moving in 2021 when it was announced that ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ creator Adam Wingard would direct the sequel. So far, this hasn’t happened – and it may still be a while before we see “Face/Off 2.”

However, Adam Wingard has at least confirmed that “Face/Off 2” is not off the table yet! The filmmaker is currently on a major promotional tour for his new film “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” The next entry in the MonsterVerse will hit theaters here on April 4, 2024. Wingard came out asked if “Face/Off 2” still exists with him in the director’s chair – and the filmmaker confirmed that the project is still alive – and a great script already exists!

Wingard was also in conversation with the Hollywood reporter asked about “Face/Off 2” and explained: “I really love the script. It’s one of those things you read and think, ‘Oh man! This is the perfect sequel to ‘Face/Off’ that I could never have imagined.”

“Face/Off 2” may be a long time coming

It is of course not yet known who will play the leading role in “Face/Off 2”. So whether Nicolas Cage and John Travolta will return remains to be seen. It may still be some time before Wingard starts working on the film, because opposite The ‘You’re Next’ creator explained that his next project will be the live-action adaptation of the action-packed ’80s animated series.Thunder cats“could be.

In the conversation, Wingard also illustrated that the bright and dark ’80s cartoon look of “ThunderCats” was one of the main inspirations for “Godzilla x Kong.” Of course, it would be quite fitting if Wingard next went to the source and made sure “ThunderCats” hit the big screen.

However, it could also be that Wingard is still in the MonsterVerse. Opposite He spoke about his own “Godzilla/Kong” trilogy and revealed that he “Be open and enthusiastic about everything the future brings”. Whatever the plans, Wingard is unlikely to be boring for years to come.
