For fans of “Harry Potter” it is a dream: taking a ride on the famous “Hogwarts Express”. The train is actually called the Jacobite Steam Train and along the way it also crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct in the Scottish Highlands, which also features in the ‘Harry Potter’ films.

But now the “Hogwarts Express” must suspend its operations until further notice. The reason for this is a dispute over safety regulations. Until a decision is made on whether the historic steam train can continue to operate without central locking in the future, the service between Mallaig on Scotland’s west coast and Fort William at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, will be broken. cancelled.

Operator West Coast Railways (WCR) announced this. The company warned of a loss of turnover of up to 50 million pounds (58.5 million euros) and permanent damage to tourism.

With one exception, the connection was operated for more than 30 years. The regulator Office of Rail and Road (ORR) must now decide on an extension. The railway company warns its operations will be destroyed if millions in renovations are required.

The route that the “Hogwarts Express” takes is just over 70 kilometers long and a one-way journey takes about two hours. A return ticket for adults costs approximately 113 euros in first class and approximately 75 euros in second class. You can also rent a compartment for six people, which costs around 460 euros.

It is not yet known when exactly the ‘Hogwarts Express’ will be able to run again. The West Coast Railways website states that affected passengers who have already booked tickets will be notified by email or text message. You will receive a full refund.
