German actor Fritz Wepper has died

Mourning Fritz Wepper. The actor repeatedly struggled with health problems for years. Cancer, tumor, corona, blood poisoning. The mime artist was recently in a hospice in Upper Bavaria.

As “Bild” reports, it was believed that Fritz Wepper had received sufficient treatment and that the medication was no longer effective. The film legend was guided and cared for in the care institution until her death. Now, according to the newspaper, the actor has died at the age of 82. ‘Fritz fell asleep peacefully’ confirmed his wife Susanne Kellermann.

Wepper was born in the early 1940s. At the age of eleven he started acting in the children’s play “Peter Pan”. A few years later, Bernhard Wicki’s internationally acclaimed anti-war film “Die Brücke” followed.

Hollywood dreams were dashed, but Wepper still became famous, especially with two roles: As commissioner assistant Harry Klein in the ZDF crime series “Derrick” and as the cunning mayor Wolfgang Wöller in the ARD series “For Heaven’s Sake”, which ended on June 15, 2021 after about 20 years.

As a popular actor who won, among other things, the Bavarian Television Prize, Fritz Wepper enjoyed the jet set life. The actor knew many illustrious and famous people. He has already partied with Leopold Prince of Bavaria, danced with Sweden’s Queen Silvia and got along well with American actress Liza Minelli, whom he met while filming the musical “Cabaret.”

In 1968 he filmed the crime thriller ‘The Man with the Glass Eye’ together with Iris Berben. This was followed by films such as ‘The Last Fight’ and the crime series ‘Murder in the Best Company’. In 2023, Fritz Wepper announced that he no longer wanted to work as an actor. The last episode of “For Heaven’s Sake” was also the last performance of Fritz Wepper.
