On March 8, Princess Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) picked up her sword and took on a dragon in the fantasy adventure “Damsel” on Netflix. There were decent streaming numbers in launch week – and apparently excellent word of mouth. Because now “Damsel” can claim several brilliant top results in the Netflix charts:
On the one hand, ‘Damsel’ had the most successful week for an English-language film on Netflix with 50.8 million views in its second week, since the streaming service switched to counting views instead of hours watched!
Most successful week since the Netflix metric change
In its opening week, ‘Damsel’ had ‘only’ 35.5 million views, but since the Netflix metric was changed, ‘Extraction 2’ (42.8 million views) and ‘Leave The World Behind’ (41.7 million) started . Views) better. But neither the action hit with Chris Hemsworth nor the thriller with Julia Roberts had such an excellent week in the subsequent series as “Damsel” in the second week of the competition.
That leads us directly to the next mega success for “Damsel”: the insane increase in views from week 1 to week 2! Although it is very common for films to be viewed only slightly more often in the second week than at the beginning, or for the number of views to even drop, ‘Damsel’ is one View a growth of no less than 43.9% compared to the week before – for example, even the Netflix megahit ‘The Mother’ could not register such an increase in interest.
Huge audience growth for “Damsel”
“The Mother” started shortly before the stats changed, which is why you should compare hours watched rather than views. But “The Mother” grew from week 1 to week 2 from 83.7 million to 94.4 million hours, while “Damsel” grew from 64.8 million to 93.2 million (just a tiny tick below “The Mother”! ). Such growth does not happen often, and that Juan Carlos Fresnadillos Fantasy drama that trumps “The Mother,” for example, is remarkable.
In total, “Damsel” comes with the 35.3 million views from week 1 and the 50.8 million views from week 2 to a current total of 86.1 million views. It will be exciting to see what happens next – Films and series on Netflix have 91 days for their viewing figures to qualify for the all-time charts. A look at the top ten English-language films shows us: ‘Extraction’ is in 10th place with a total of 135.7 million views. And that should certainly still be there in “Damsel”…
