In the post-credits scenes of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we learned that we weren’t dealing with the real Nick Fury, but with Captain Marvel’s Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who took on the appearance of the former SHIELD director. The real Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), on the other hand, was on a secret mission in space. And in the MCU series “Secret InvasionComing to Disney+ in early 2023, he finally returns to Earth.
The title of the series, which references a popular Marvel Comics storyline, suggests that Secret Invasion is about a splinter group of Talos’ shape-shifting species that have quietly and secretly infiltrated the Earth. To thwart the sinister plans, Fury and Talos must join forces. This, of course, begs the question of who else can you trust when the Skrulls who walk among humans can take on almost any appearance…
Emilia Clarke as a member of the X-Men?
And this is where we come to a revelation that we did not expect at all. Because it was not yet known who will embody “Game Of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke in “Secret Invasion”. Ironically, Tenor, the site responsible for GIFs, has now revealed that that Clarke will play Abigail Brand. Brand is the Commanding Officer of SWORD, SHIELD’s quasi-successor organization, already known for “WandaVision”, which focuses on extraterrestrial and supernatural problems and threats.
Not much is known about her background. Aside from the fact that in the comics Brand is the daughter of an alien father and a human mother and grew up on the planet Axus, it’s particularly exciting that that she carries the X-Gene, which means she is officially a mutant like the X-Men!
It remains to be seen whether Abigail Brand’s comedic background will actually make its way into the MCU. If so, though, it could mean “Secret Invasion” is finally gearing up for the X-Men’s long-promised entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this point, it should not go unmentioned that the eponymous heroine from the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel” in the last episode of which was already clearly suggested as a mutant.
“Secret Invasion” could perhaps focus a bit more on the mutant theme. In any case, the series will do its part to further expand the MCU and possibly even completely change it, as you can read here:
