If director Joe Dante could tame the pesky little “Gremlins,” he’ll surely do the same with Audrey. Because that’s the name of the carnivorous plant from the cult monster horror film “The Little Shop of Horrors” – and it can now open its ravenous mouth again Restart “Small shop full of Halloween horrors“.
This means that the new edition with the word “Halloween” differs slightly from the original title “Little Shop of Horrors”. The story about a clumsy and unluckily in love temporary worker in a flower shop, who initially brings a windfall with a new plant species, but then causes many problems, has already appeared on the screen twice. Once in Roger Corman’s original “Little Shop of Horrors” and then in Frank Oz’s musical version “The Little Shop of Horrors” starring Rick Moranis. This is based on the stage musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which in turn is based on Corman’s film title.
“Little Shop Of Halloween Horrors”: Roger Corman is on board!
How reported, will Joe Dante directs Little Shop of Halloween Horrors take over – the perfect combination, because Dante already demonstrated a talent for successful horror comedies with the ‘Gremlins’ films. However, genre fans will be even more excited by the news that there is also an original director Roger Korman with which is involved. He will produce Little Shop of Halloween Horrors alongside Brad Krevoy (Dumb and Dumber).
According to Deadline, the new edition will serve as the start of a new franchise. What exactly this should look like is not explained, but the classic would of course be sequels, spin-offs and perhaps even a series. The script for the new “Horror Shop” was contributed by Charles S. Haas, who previously worked with Joe Dante as the author of “Gremlins 2 – The Return of the Little Monsters”.
Since it is a reboot of Roger Corman’s original, it can be assumed that “Little Shop Of Halloween Horrors” will not be a musical. The making of Corman’s B-movie from 1960 is legendary: It is considered one of the fastest produced films of all time. The script was said to have been written in one evening and filming took two days and one night.
By the way, another remake of “Little Shop of Horrors” has been in the works in recent years. Greg Berlanti (“You – You’ll Love Me”) was set to direct, and in early 2020 it was said that “Avengers” star Chris Evans could land one of the leading roles. However, this project appears to have fallen apart during the COVID pandemic.
