On all channels: New charter wants more Swiss music on radio and TV

The SRG and representatives of ten organizations from the Swiss music industry have signed a new charter, the SRG announced on Thursday. The aim is to promote Swiss music and young talent and increase their visibility.

The “presence of Swiss music in the SRG’s program offering will now be determined regardless of the type of distribution,” the statement said. This means that there is no longer a distinction between linear, as with radio and TV, or digital. In addition, the new charter strengthens the exchange of information about the SRG’s program offering between the various partners.

In the charter, the SRG commits to promoting Swiss music across its entire program offering, “broadcasting editorials and special programs on Swiss music and playing an active role in promoting Swiss music through partnerships.” The previous main objective is therefore continued.

The charter is a cooperation agreement between SRG and the Swiss music industry. Their representatives include the trade association of Swiss music labels IFPI Switzerland, the interest group Volkskultur (IVG) and the association of independent Swiss labels and producers Indiesuisse.

The new charter was signed on Thursday during the meeting of the dialogue organ ‘Swiss Music’, the statement continued. The charter was launched in 2004 and first revised in 2016. In recent years, the share of Swiss music broadcast on all SRG radio channels has increased. (sda/lyn)
