That is why ZDF has removed “Markus Lanz” from the program in the short term

Markus Lanz talks late evenings every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with guests from different areas on different topics. It can be about political news or socially relevant.

This Wednesday, the moderator is allowed only one guest in the studio: Federal Economy Minister and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck. He wanted to talk to the Greens politician about current issues such as securing energy supplies, electricity and gas prices, the continued operation of the nuclear power plants and Hamburg’s planned port deal with China.

The new edition of “Markus Lanz” was scheduled for midnight – but shortly before that, ZDF withdrew it from the program. “Unfortunately, the program with Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck has to be canceled,” said the TV production company of the talk show Mhoch2 on Wednesday evening shortly before 10 p.m. The reason: “cold symptoms and hoarseness” in the host.

It was “the first sick leave after the broadcasts of ‘Markus Lanz’ in 1729,” the statement continues. They hope for understanding from viewers and are “glad that our moderator will be back tomorrow”.

Markus Lanz has moderated the talk show named after him since 2008. Since the start of the corona pandemic in 2020, there has been no audience in the studio. That must also remain the case in the future, it was decided in March 2022. In 2021, the show received the German Television Prize in the “Best Information” category.

Lanz recently received another award: the honorary prize of the Bavarian Prime Minister, the Blue Panther. “Markus Lanz is a smart, tenacious and always carefully prepared talk show host,” said Markus Söder before the decision. And: With his program he brings complex debates and topics closer to his audience in an understandable and entertaining way. He has “acquired a unique position in the German television landscape”.
