After Netflix launched three major new originals last week with ‘Damsel’, ‘The Gentlemen’ and ‘Das Signal’, the streaming provider will be taking a more relaxed approach on this front over the next seven days. But that doesn’t mean that this time there won’t be one or two promising titles that you should keep an eye on.
That is why we introduce you below the highlights of the Netflix week from March 11 to 17, 2024, sorted by day of the week:
Monday: “Young Royals” comes to an end
The week on Netflix starts with the third and final season of the Swedish teen drama series “Young royals“, in which heir to the throne Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) ultimately has to choose between royal duties and a (more or less) normal teenage life. Don’t be surprised: five episodes of the final season will be released on Monday, after which Netflix will release the very last episode separately as an event the following week.
Tuesday: Cold War
Almost no other period in recent history has had such a lasting impact on the global political climate as the Cold War. After the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, the world was no longer the same. The Netflix documentary “Turning point: the bomb and the Cold War“ outlines this period of uncertainty, fear and arms race, which was accompanied by an ideological power struggle between East and West that continues to this day.
Wednesday: Treasure hunt in Mexico
If you’re in the mood for a real adventure story, you can try the reboot of the Mexican series “Bandidos“ find what you are looking for. Here, a colorful group of treasure hunters look for a legendary Spanish galleon that is said to have disappeared in the Gulf of Mexico several centuries ago – with a large cargo of gold on board.
Thursday: Race against time and romance with master thief
The Indonesian crime thriller promises high tension on Thursday “24 hours with Gaspar“, in which the private detective of the same name (Reza Rahadian) only has one day left to live and so does everything he can to apprehend a notorious human trafficker. Meanwhile, things become more and more romantic “The art of stealing a heart“in which a young Interpol investigator (Esra Bilgiç) discovers that her missing husband (Birkan Sokullu) is a master photo thief.
With the third season of “Girls5Eva“ Meanwhile, the story about the same ex-girl group continues to work on its comeback. And the true crime documentary ‘From Dream to Tragedy: How a Fire Rocked Brazilian Football’ finally portrays the unfortunately all-too-true case of a tragic incident at a Brazilian youth football center.
Friday: “Monk,” Lindsay Lohan, race highlight and a human chicken nugget
Former superstar Lindsay Lohan now seems to have found the right environment for a comeback on Netflix. After their Christmas mega hit ‘Falling For Christmas’ in 2022, the fantasy romance now follows “Irish wish“. In it, Lohan is unexpectedly torn between two men after a fateful wish.
Things get even crazier in the South Korean comedy series “Chicken nuggets“, in which a young woman (Kim You-jung) is accidentally turned into a piece of meat (yes, you read that right!). It’s then up to her father (Ryu Seung-ryong) and her admirer (Ahn Jae-hong) to undo things.
In addition, Netflix Friday also offers top-class licensing supplies. In addition to all eight seasons of the cult series “monk“ about the idiosyncratic investigator of the same name (which was recently followed up with the streaming film “Mr. Monk’s Last Case”), we can also expect James Mangold’s star-studded racing drama “LeMans66“ about the bitter rivalry between the car manufacturers Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s is a real highlight.
Saturday: Complete the watch list
Netflix has once again announced no significant new releases for the weekend. It is of course always possible that an exciting new title will enter the portfolio in the short term. But if the lull continues, Saturday is the best time to work through the accumulated watch list.
Sunday: Final preparations for the Oscars
The Oscars will be presented again on the night from Sunday to Monday. It makes sense to use the quiet Netflix weekend to maybe catch up on a nominated film or two. The biopic ‘Maestro’ by and with Bradley Cooper by Leonard Bernstein can be found on Netflix itself, while competitor Amazon Prime Video offers ‘American fiction’. And the exceptional works ‘The Zone Of Interest’, ‘Poor Things’ and ‘The Holdovers’, among others, can still be seen in cinemas.
