Autobiography of Prince Harry nominated for British Literature Prize

Prince Harry’s autobiography, published last year, has been nominated in two categories for the British Book Awards. As the industry magazine “The Bookseller”, which awards the award, announced on Friday, the book, entitled “Spare” (in German: “Reserve”), was nominated as Book of the Year in the non-fiction narrative and audio non – fiction categories.

The reason given was that no book had ever sold faster than the prince’s memoirs, which were also the best-selling book in Britain last year. The audiobook was originally read by Harry himself.

In his autobiography, the 39-year-old provides insight into the private life of the royal family and his emotional world with unprecedented openness. In it he describes his life in the shadow of his older brother William (41) and how he dealt with the early death of his mother, Princess Diana.

Harry also accuses his family of colluding with the tabloid press. He blames the media for Diana’s fatal car crash and accuses them of running a smear campaign against his wife Meghan, 42. The book is said to have contributed significantly to further deepening the rift between Harry and the royal family.

Harry and Meghan broke away from the inner circle of the royal family more than four years ago. Especially with his father, King Charles III. (75), Harry had a falling out with his brother William, who is now heir apparent. He and his wife Meghan Frau now live in the US state of California with their two children, Prince Archie (4) and Princess Lilibet (2). (saw/sda/dpa)
