Bad news for Disney fans: the remake of one of the greatest animated classics is suddenly without a director

Sarah Polley is an all-rounder and should next add a particularly prestigious project with blockbuster success to her varied CV: Because as Disney’s director Live action “Bambi” The remake of one of the greatest animated classics in film history was put in Polley’s hands.

And one thing is indisputable: with such a gigantic production, both the actress (known for ‘Dawn Of The Dead’, ‘eXistenZ’) and director and screenwriter (Oscar for ‘The Pronunciation’) could have created completely new facets of the world. to show. her talent. But that’s exactly what won’t happen: like the trade magazine now reported, Disney will continue to work on ‘Bambi’ – but without Polley’s involvement. There’s no drama to it though, it simply didn’t work as well as you hoped .

The news comes just days after it was announced that Sean Bailey would be leaving Disney after 15 years and would be replaced by David Greenbaum. Bailey was largely responsible for the wave of live-action remakes of several Disney classics such as ‘The Lion King’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’, but will remain at Disney as a producer. preserved – for example in the case of “Tron: Ares”, which has been eagerly awaited for years.

What awaits us next in “Bambi”?

It’s unclear who will follow in Polley’s footsteps – and whether the new cast will also result in a recast of the film. We remember: last September we reported that the most famous scene in the film would look completely different in the remake – because the original might be perceived as too harsh for today’s youth. The tragic death scene of Bambi’s mother should get a new twist, as you can read in the following article:

“Bambi” from 1942 is based on the book “Bambi. A Life Story from the Forest” from 1923 and was originally intended to be adapted as a live-action film by Sidney Franklin. However, realizing that it was impossible to film the story with the resources then available, he finally turned to Walt Disney in the mid-1930s – under whom “Bambi” was released as Disney’s only fifth full-length animated film.

These Disney remakes are coming next

Although there is a big question mark over the theatrical release of ‘Bambi’, fans of the Disney remakes should not immediately despair. The Mouse House is currently working on a variety of live-action remakes, some of which are still in their early stages, but others are expected to release in the near future:

The following are “Mufasa: The Lion King“ (Theatrical release: December 19, 2024),”Snow White“ (March 20, 2025) and “Moana” (June 26, 2025). By the way, you can of course find the previous remakes and their originals! – streaming on Disney+.
