There’s a new “Twilight” series coming, but different than you think

Early last year it was announced that a ‘Harry Potter’ series was being planned, in which all seven of JK Rowling’s books would be adapted with a new cast. And that only a few years after the last part appeared in cinemas. The adjustment did not promise greater added value and that is why the project met resistance.

As has now become known, the new ‘Twilight’ series avoids this point of criticism in any case. The reboot of Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy series was announced shortly after “Harry Potter”, also as a series. From the beginning, the “Twilight” project takes on a more original look than the Hogwarts series.

The ‘Twilight’ saga is mainly about the lovers Bella and Edward, iconically embodied in the films of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Bella moves to the town of Forks on the Washington coast as a teenager. There she meets the vampire Edward. She falls in love with him, but also accuses herself of complicated, age-old vampire feuds.

This story was rolled out between 2008 and 2012 with a total of five films that grossed over three billion dollars. The series enjoys a cult following and has left a huge footprint in pop culture.

A new interpretation therefore entails risks, just as in the case of ‘Harry Potter’. IUnlike the ‘Harry Potter’ series, ‘Twilight’ defies comparison with the original film.

As Variety reports, the Lionsgate studio plans to adapt the story as an animated series. A rather surprising announcement. What could something like that look like?

Details about the animated series “Twilight” are not yet known. The announcement comes from Michael Burns, vice president of Lionsgate. Burns is optimistic about the idea:

If you think of animation as children’s shows, you are wrong. In recent years, the cartoon aesthetic has opened up a number of genres and franchises that appeal more to adults. A series about vampires cannot do without blood.

Still, the question arises as to which target group the project wants to appeal to: people who like the old films? Or new fans? Neither the “Harry Potter” series nor the “Twilight” series can avoid this problem.

A release date or other information about the series has not yet been announced.
