Dominican musician and orchestra director Wilfrido Vargas was admitted to a private health center in Santo Domingo on Wednesday.
Wilfrido Vargas presented a case of pneumonia and type A influenza, the merenguero’s office reported in a brief statement.
Vargas, 73 years old, is in the unit intensive care unit (ICU) of the Corazones Unidos clinic, in the center of the Dominican capital.
The award-winning merengue player returned to the country on Monday after finishing artistic preferences in Puerto Rico, the information said, adding that Vargas had flu symptoms during the trip.
On Wednesday, Vargas had to be helped by his staff and their representative, Huáscar Henríquez, who, like the Dominican merengue player, is infected with the flu virus, although with milder symptoms, the statement added.
The artist achieved great success in his extensive work a career in merenguerhythm that contributed to internationalization.
‘African’, ‘Doggy dance’, ‘The Gardener’, ‘The Funny Man’ or ‘Volveré’ are some of the most popular songs performed by the Vargas Orchestra, which began its career in the early 70s of the last century.
