American singer Taylor Swift kicked off a new leg of her world tour “The Eras Tour” this Saturday in Singapore with her first concert in the city-state at a packed National Stadium.

In Singapore, the singer has sold out all available tickets, selling more than 300,000 concert tickets, and the city is also organizing light and water shows to mark the artist’s visit, according to The Straits Times newspaper.
The choice of Singapore as the only destination in Southeast Asia was accompanied by some controversy after Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said that he had been told by concert promoters that the Singaporean authorities had offered up to around $3 million per concert to have exclusivity in Southeast Asia.
Singapore’s Ministry of Culture and Youth has confirmed that it has secured financial assistance to support Taylor Swift’s concerts, but did not disclose the amount or terms.
The singer attracted more than 600,000 people to her seven concerts in Australia, in Melbourne and Sydney, where her father, Scott Swift, had an incident with a paparazzi who accused him of hitting him in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police in the Australian state of New South Wales said they were investigating the incident.
The performer, who has been awarded 12 Grammy Awards during her career, achieved a world record by raising more than 1,000 million with “The Eras Tour”, ahead of other artists and groups such as Elton John, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.
The “Fearless” and “Cruel Summer” singer’s next stops will be Portugal, England, Poland, Austria and the United States before closing the tour in December in Canada.
